FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Study permits, trial lessons, levels, fees, refunds and online classes — in plain language.
Study permits & immigration
Is this school for study-permit purposes?
No. Maple Bridge Language Academy is not a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), so our courses cannot be used to apply for a study permit, and we do not issue letters of acceptance.
Rules on who may study in Canada, and whether a short course needs a permit, are set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and change from time to time. Please check your own situation on canada.ca before you enrol. We cannot give immigration advice.
Do your courses count as proof of language for IRCC?
No. IRCC accepts results only from approved third-party tests (for example CELPIP-General, IELTS General Training or TEF Canada — see IRCC for the full, current list). We offer exam preparation; we are not an official test centre.
Courses & levels
Can I try a lesson first?
Yes. Book a trial lesson in the studio or online. We check your level and recommend a course — with no obligation to enrol.
How do I know my level?
Every learner takes a placement test and a short entry assessment. For a quick indication, try the free online level test.
How big are the classes?
A maximum of 12 learners per group.
What do I need for online classes?
A computer or tablet with a camera, microphone and stable internet. Headphones help. We send a link and a short tech check before the first class.
Do you offer accommodations for disabilities?
Yes. Tell us what you need — for example large-print materials, captions, seating or extra time in practice tests — when you enrol or any time by emailing [email protected].
How do you check my progress?
Through our Academic Standards & Student Support process: placement testing, an entry assessment, regular progress reviews, individual teacher recommendations and a certificate of completion.
Fees & policies
Do prices include HST?
Prices are shown in Canadian dollars plus HST (13% in Ontario). Course materials are included.
Can I get a refund if my plans change?
Yes: 100% if you cancel more than 14 days before the start, 75% at 7–13 days, 50% at less than 7 days; after the start, a pro-rated amount based on services delivered. If we cancel a course you get a full refund or a transfer. See the refund policy.
Is there a minimum age?
Group courses are for adults 18+. Learners aged 16–17 may join with written consent from a parent or guardian.
